Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, typically covers about 80% of all you medical bills. This does not include Rx coverage. Rx coverage is considered Part D or is integrated as an Advantage Plan.
After enrolling in standard Medicare, you will need to find the supplement plan that best fits your situation. At this point, our agents help determine the type of plan you will need. Below you will find the three types of Medicare supplements available.
MediGap:
These plans are designed to fill in all the medical gaps that are present in standard Medicare offers. The plans are identical in coverage from carrier to carrier. If you wish to purchase a MediGap plan you will need to compare the financial strength of the carrier and the cost of the plan.
Part D (Rx):
Part D is the prescription plan that a Medicare member will need. Even if you do not take medications now it is still advised to select a low cost plan. You will be penalized 1% a month until you enroll and many Advantage plans offer Rx with their coverage.
Advantage Plans:
These plans act much like your current health plan. They have co-pays for labs, doctor visits, hospitalization and other services. Doctors are more likely to accept Advantage plans since they are paid faster and are accustomed to billing traditional health insurance companies. Advantage plans come in all sorts of varieties and are based on the county that you reside. The first step is to ask you primary care doctor which plans they accept.
